The Charles A. Waterbury Memorial and Endowment Funds

Why were the Memorial Funds Established?
The Charles A. Waterbury Funds were established by Northeast Iowa Medical Education Foundation in memory of its founding director, Charles A. Waterbury, Jr. M.D. The purpose of the Funds are to enhance the educational activities of the Northeast Iowa Medical Education Foundation.

Dr. Charles A. Waterbury, Jr. was an active member of the Black Hawk County medical community for 42 years. As a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Medicine, he completed a general internship and a residency in pediatrics before joining his father in family practice in Waterloo in 1942. After 32 years in private practice, he became Associate Director of the University of Northern Iowa Student Health Center.

In 1976, because he believed strongly in the concept of family medicine, Waterbury accepted the challenge of starting a family practice residency program in Waterloo. He served as the Medical Education Foundation's first Program Director from July, 1976, through July, 1982. Under his guidance and leadership, the Foundation evolved from an abstract idea into a well-established program, providing superior resident education and patient care. Waterbury was the epitome of the family doctor.

Waterbury was active in many community activities and served on numerous Medical Society and hospital committees during his career - a career that deserves to be remembered and honored.

Why Is Your Support Needed?
As the potential for all of us to live longer increases, the need for quality health care becomes even more vital. With limited resources, it's also becoming more difficult to finance. We need your help to achieve the standard of excellence for which the Northeast Iowa Medical Education Foundation strives to achieve its mission.

Your support will honor Waterbury. As all grants from the funds will be distributed in Waterbury's name, your gift will be a living tribute to his foresight and dedication to the health needs of our area.

The Waterbury Funds
The Northeast Iowa Medical Education Foundation has current priority needs but it also knows that good management dictates planning for the future. Therefore, it has established two funds within the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa.
